This time next year Azzurri skipper Fabio Cannavaro could be wearing a Napoli shirt, according to the player’s representative.
The former Juventus defender has always stressed his desire to conclude his career at his hometown club
And at the age of 34, Canna is already starting to think about the final chapter of his football tale.
“Looking at the current situation, it seems that Cannavaro is about to begin his final season in a Real Madrid shirt,” agent Gaetano Fedele said on Radio Kiss Kiss.
“We will have to see what happens over the course of the season and whether there is the possibility of a contract renewal or not.
“However, Fabio’s dream has always been to return to Napoli and to wear the Azzurri shirt as his final act as a footballer.”
Fabio’s brother Paolo already plays for the Vesuviani and the two siblings could form a remarkable partnership in the centre of defence.

Reports from Portugal state that Porto striker Ricardo Quaresma could sign for Inter within the next 24 hours.
The Italian champions seem to have accepted defeat in their bid to bring Chelsea ace Frank Lampard to San Siro this summer.
Coach Jose Mourinho is now ready to look elsewhere for reinforcements and is focusing on compatriot Quaresma.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the 24-year-old will be offered a four-year contract worth around £11m – trebling his wage at Porto.
However, there is still work to do on the transfer fee because the Bwin Liga side won’t relinquish Quaresma lightly.
Porto are reportedly demanding £25m plus the rights to Inter’s Portuguese youngster Pelè – a sum that Massimo Moratti is unwilling to pay.
Sources suggest that a compromise could be reached at around £20m, but that Moratti is keen to bring the cost down to £15m.
Quaresma has never publicly stressed his desire to play for Inter, but he would be expected to relish the chance to try his luck in Italy under Mourinho.

Roma look increasingly likely to snap up unsettled Chelsea star Florent Malouda and could table a bid before the end of the week.
The Giallorossi have added John Arne Riise and Simone Loria to their ranks this summer, but the fans are still waiting for the big swoop.
While Real Madrid forward Julio Baptista is a primary objective, French international Malouda has become a major target.
The 28-year-old has failed to make his mark at Stamford Bridge and is reportedly keen to make a fresh start in Italy.
Roma are believed to be looking for a loan deal, but it has been suggested that Chelsea won’t accept a temporary agreement.
In order to buy Malouda outright, the capital club will need to find at least £10m, which would surely rule out the arrival of Baptista.
Rumours suggest that Roma sporting director Daniele Pradè is ready to start talks with Chelsea today and could present an offer by the weekend.
