Spurs close on £8 million defender

Tottenham are closing on the signing of Manchester City defender Vedran Corluka. The Croatian international only joined the Blues last season but has impressed Spurs boss Juande Ramos during his first season in the Premier League.

City signed the 22-year old for £7 million last summer but are set to receive at least £8 million if he does move to White Hart Lane. City boss Mark Hughes confirmed yesterday that Spurs were interested in the defender but as yet nothing has been finalised. Corluka was left out of City’s 1-0 victory over AC Milan yesterday, fuelling intense rumours that he was in London having a medical.

I personally feel Corluka is a quality player defender and will be a superb signing for Spurs. However I do think he isn’t the smartest in the defending sense. He is a very attack minded right-back who is prone to being caught out of position but he I think he will be a great replacement for Pascal Chimbonda at White Hart Lane.

United to forget about Spurs striker and move for Gunners legend

Manchester United are ready to give up on trying to sign Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov and instead try and sign Barcelona ace Thierry Henry. The former Gunners frontman has been linked with a move back to the Premier League all summer after an average start to his career in La Liga.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been priced out of a move for Berbatov after Spurs demanded £30 million for the Bulgarian. He has now turned his attentions to Henry, who was quoted as saying last year that he would never join another Premier League club, unless Arsenal came in for him.

I personally would be surprised to see the Frenchman arrive at Old Trafford this summer, although stanger things have happened. Ferguson has admitted he wants to sign a new striker before the big kick-off next week and Henry has been mentioned along with Benzema, Huntelaar and David Villa.

Arsenal to move for £8 million England midfielder

Arsenal are preparing an £8 million bid for Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson after is was reported that the England under-21 international has rejected a new deal Eastlands. Johnson has progressed through the ranks at the City of Manchester stadium and has proved to be a superb asset for City.

It now appears as though Mark Hughes could be losing one of his prized assets in Johnson due to interest from Arsenal. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is ready to make an £8 million for the 20-year, a bid which City may be forced to accept due to Johnson’s determination to leave the club.

As a City fan myself I am obviously hoping we keep hold of Michael. He is a terrific prospect for the future and I personally feel he will become an England regular within the next 18 months. I think Johnson would be better off staying at City for at least another season and then maybe think about moving to the Emirates.

Is Johnson good enough for your team? Well sign up for the Daily Mirror’s, You the Manager (through the link at the top) and sign the highly rated young midfielder for just £3.5 million. What a bargain!
