Keane To Consider Etuhu Offers

Sunderland boss Roy Keane is reportedly prepared to let Dickson Etuhu go if the price is right.

According to skysports.com, the Irish manager is willing to sacrifice the Nigerian midfielder in order to help finance his efforts to completely revamp the squad.

Rangers boss Walter Smith is believed to have already made tentative contact over the player, who made 20 appearances for the Black Cats last season.

Sunderland have enjoyed a busy week in the transfer market having already announced the signings of former Tottenham pair Teemu Tainio and Pascal Chimbonda as well as Cork City’s David Meyler and goalkeeper Nick Colgan.

The arrival of Tainio, especially, would make Etuhu’s departure easter to digest, so it would not be a surprise if the 20-year-old were plying his trade in Glasgow next season.

Duff And Warnock Set For Swap Deal?

Reports in Ireland suggest that Newcastle’s Damien Duff could be set for a return to Blackburn Rovers, in exchange for England full-back Stephen Warnock.

Newcastle allegedly offered £2million outright for Warnock two weeks ago, but their bid was rejected outright. It is thought that the Magpies made an improved £3million bid last week, but Rovers were still not satisfied to release the England international.

However, The Irish Independent stated that the Ewood Park side could be interested in doing business with Newcastle should Duff be added to the deal.

Duff began is career in English football in 1996 with Blackburn Rovers, and spent seven seasons at the club before departing for Chelsea in 2003.

The Irish international left Stamford Bridge for Newcastle in 2006, but has seen his time on Tyneside hampered by injury and a dramatic loss of form.

Duff is one of the club’s highest earners and Newcastle’s owners are looking to trim the considerable St James’ Park wage bill.

Signing a left-back is a number one priority for Kevin Keegan this summer, with only Jose Enrique a specialist in that position. By contrast, the wings at Newcastle are reasonably well-stocked, and Duff could well be moving on.

Torres Keen To Prove Himself With Madrid

Miguel Torres has stated that he has no intention of leaving Real Madrid, but knows that he will have to impress if he wants to stay at the club next summer.

The 22-year-old impressed in los Merengues’ first pre-season friendly on Sunday and hopes that coach Bernd Schuster was pleased with his performance.

Starting his third season in the first team, Torres now wants to claim a regular place in the side rather than contemplate having to join a new club.

“Several teams have been mentioned, but my intention is to stay here. It was difficult to rise up to the first team and I am conscious that in my third season I cannot waste time,” he told Marca.

“I have to be strong and I have been working hard since day one so that nobody has any doubts about me and that I have the confidence of the coach.”

In the encounter with LASK Linz at the weekend, Torres played at left-back and in the centre and he is pleased to have been trusted to move into the middle.

“I want to have more continuity this season. Things have started very well, the team clearly knows the system and we know how we have to play,” he continued.

“Despite hard training sessions that we are doing, I think we played well.

“It is very important that the coach counts on me and that he knows I can do well in more than one position. I hope to be able to more this season.”
