Andrea Russotto has not been officially unveiled as a Napoli player but is confident the deal is almost done. However, the talented youngster will go to Beijing with the Italian Olympic team before starting his new Azzurri adventure.

The transfer of the 20-year-old is nearing completion and only details need to be sorted out, but the Lazio youth product cannot wait to get started and face the San Paolo crowd.

“It’s a dream come true,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.

“The Azzurri jersey, the San Paolo and the passion of the fans were things I could only imagine until now. But they will become a wonderful reality pretty soon and I am ecstatic.

“Am I happy? No, I’m in seventh heaven,” grinned Andrea.

“The negotiations have been going on for so long, every day I would wait for that phone call to tell me the deal was done. When I finally got it, I was literally overwhelmed.”

The Roman native is aware that his first season in Naples will probably be difficult, and he will not get much playing time, but he keeps his feet on the ground.

“Napoli have great champions and others have come in this summer; I can only hope to get a few games under my belt to prove I can cut the mustard at this level,” added Andrea.

“I’ve never met Edy Reja, but I can only promise I will do my best to get noticed. As for the squad, I have already played with Inacio Pià and Nicolas Amodio at Treviso, and I know Fabiano Santacroce from the U21 setup, so I guess they will help me settle in.

“I reckon the club want to go one better this season, hence the UEFA Cup qualification should be our primary goal,” he concluded.

Tiago Wants Atletico Madrid Move

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus would like to sell midfield flop Tiago Mendes to Monaco, however the player is holding out for a move to Atletico Madrid.

Tiago only signed for Juve last summer for €13m, however he has been a huge disappointment in Turin, making just 10 Serie A starts, and scoring no goals.

The Bianconeri tried to sell the 27-year-old during the January transfer window, and even set-up a deal with Tottenham Hotspur, however the player rejected the move at the last minute.

The Portuguese midfielder was holding out for a move to Atletico Madrid, but they were not willing to meet Juve’s asking price and so Tiago struggled on at the Stadio Olimpico until then end of the season.

The former Chelsea man has been with the Old Lady in their summer training camp at Pinzolo and even played in the friendly against Piacenza earlier this week.

However, it is no secret that Juve are desperate to offload Tiago, and they are said to be in negotiations with Monaco, the French club said to be willing to pay around €7.5m.

Tiago though has no intention of signing for the Monte Carlo-based outfit, and is still holding out for a dream move to Atletico Madrid, hoping that eventually Juve will lower their asking price to satisfy the Spaniards.

Bruce Bouyant After Landing World’s Best Striker

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce is hoping Egyptian striker Amr Zaki can light up the Premier League with the scoring form that has seen him ranked as the best hitman on the planet…

After a lengthy negotiation process, the Latics have finally secured Zaki’s services on an initial loan deal from El Zamalek, which could cost up to ₤2million depending on add-ons.

The 25-year-old has been prolific for both club and country since returning to Egypt after a horror spell at Lokomotiv Moscow in 2006, during which he failed to feature at all.

But Bruce hopes his new recruit can put his previous stint in Europe behind him and transfer the form he displayed for the Pharaohs in February to the JJB Stadium.

“According to FIFA statistics, Zaki is rated No 1 in the world,” Bruce said in the Daily Mail.

“He’s scored better than one in two for his country and Egypt won the Africa Cup of Nations. He’s a big star out there - I hope he can be for us.”
