Stoke Confirm Signing Of Davies

Stoke City have confirmed the signing of Southampton defender Andrew Davies.

Stoke City’s chief executive, Tony Scholes, has predicted that defender Andrew Davies will prove to be a ‘valuable addition’ to the Pottters’ squad.

The 23-year-old Davies finally completed his transfer from Championship side Southampton today, signing a four-year contract at the Britannia Stadium for an undisclosed fee after successfully coming through a medical on Monday evening.

Davies had only joined Southampton on loan from Middlesbrough last October, subsequently agreeing a permanent move in January. He made 25 appearances for the Saints, and has been sidelined for the opening games of this season as he recovers from a knee operation earlier in the summer.

Davies follows Dave Kitson, Seyi Olofinjana, Amdy Faye, Thomas Sorensen and Abdoulaye Faye through the in-door at the Britannia Stadium.

“Andy comes to us with considerable Premier League experience for a player of his age,” Scholes told Stoke’s official website.

“He is our sixth signing of the summer and another valuable addition to Tony Pulis’ squad.”

Cardiff Quash Loovens-Cousins Swap Rumours

Championship side Cardiff City have categorically denied suggestions that they are in discussions with Scottish giants Rangers about a possible swap deal involving Glenn Loovens and Daniel Cousin.

Rumours that Rangers manager Walter Smith has offered Gabon international striker Daniel Cousin (pictured) in a swap deal for Cardiff’s Glenn Loovens have been dismissed by the Welsh club.

In January, Cousin looked set to join Fulham for £3million, until Fifa blocked the deal because the 31-year-old forward had already played for another side, Lens, last season.

Cardiff would probably demand a similar fee for Loovens, but are not interested in a straight swap for Cousin.

A statement on Cardiff’s official website declared: “Despite media speculation, there are no ongoing discussions with Glasgow Rangers Football Club for Glenn Loovens to move to Ibrox in exchange for any Glasgow Rangers players coming to Ninian Park.”

Blades swoop for Henderson

darius-henderson

Sheffield United have wrapped up the signing of Darius Henderson from Championship rivals Watford.

Henderson has accepted a four-year contract at Bramall Lane and will cost the Blades £2million, a figure which could rise depending on certain conditions.

Several other Championship sides had been keen on the striker, with Cardiff City also making a bid for the 26-year-old.

But the Blades have won the chase for Henderson and manager Kevin Blackwell is delighted to bring in the forward to replace Rob Hulse, who has joined Derby County.
