Jose - Hard to get Ronaldo

cristiano-ronaldo

Jose Mourinho says Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo is the kind of player ‘you know for sure you cannot get’.

Ronaldo has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer and has yet to make a definitive announcement on his future.

United have insisted the Portugal international is not for sale and manager Sir Alex Ferguson has warned Ronaldo of the perils of joining Real.

New Inter Milan coach Mourinho has intimated that signing Ronaldo, and prising him from Ferguson’s grasp, would be a near impossible task.

And the former Chelsea boss admits that he never imagined trying to put together a bid to take his compatriot to Stamford Bridge.

Mancini hails ’scary’ Inter

MANCINI-AMANTINO

Amantino Mancini thinks Inter are “scarily strong” and quickly moved to smooth the controversy with his old club Roma.

“I just met Jose Mourinho, he seems a relaxed and likeable person. We are both here to achieve something important, aiming for Serie A and the Champions League,” said the Brazilian in his presentation Press conference after penning a four-year contract.

“I can say that even without other new signings, this team is already scarily strong. They won two Scudetti on the field in as many years, so they have quality.”

This statement sits somewhat awkwardly with what was said by Mancini’s former Roma teammates, who had blamed refereeing ‘help’ for the last title.

“I am a Nerazzurri player now, what happened last year is in the past. I thank Roma for everything they did for me, as I spent five wonderful years there.”

The Brazilian contingent used to be in the minority at the club, but Mancini’s arrival increases their power with Douglas Maicon, Maxwell, Julio Cesar and Adriano.

“It will be easier to settle in thanks to them, but I have been playing in Italy for a very long time now. If you work in a certain way, things come automatically, especially if you have help from the players that Inter can boast.”

Amantino managed 40 Serie A goals in 154 appearances and also impressed in the Champions League, most memorably with his step-over strike against Lyon.

However, uncertainty over his future, contract wrangling and the persistent rumours linking him with Inter made for a very fraught relationship with the Giallorossi supporters.

“I am only sorry that in the latter part of last season I was suffering from an injury to the top of my foot that I sustained against Real Madrid.

“I was out for three weeks and had to start all over again, but I still managed to net 13 goals. I was happy at Roma, though, and can only thank the club, fans and players.”

Lippi anticipates Inter Scudetto

Italy boss Marcello Lippi has backed Inter to win the Scudetto and outlined his strategy to restore glory to the Azzurri.

There’s a fascinating Serie A campaign in prospect as Inter look to maintain their grasp on the crown but face a fight from Milan, Roma and Juventus.

However, Lippi has great respect for the Nerazzurri’s new boss Jose Mourinho and thinks the Portuguese man can deliver the silverware,

“I believe Inter will win the Scudetto again because I really like the Coach that Massimo Moratti has brought in,” Lippi told Tg5.

“Mourinho is a closed person, but when all the players speak so highly of a boss it means that he has sowed the seeds correctly.”

Lippi will be watching the new campaign with eager interest having been charged with the task of building another winning Italy side ahead of World Cup 2010.

“I want to rebuild a winning group and lots of the players who were at Euro 2008 will be there,” the 60-year-old said.

“I need to choose intelligent players who know how important it is to be a compact unit with united goals and to be playing for one another. Those were the qualities that allowed us to win the World Cup.”
